London CMA New Home Starts - April 2026

The Canada Mortgage and Housing Corporation (CMHC) has released its latest new home starts data, highlighting residential construction activity across the London Census Metropolitan Area (CMA).

Key Highlights for April 2026:

  • In April, there were 967 new home starts in the London CMA, mostly consisting of rental apartments in West and South London.
  • In the first four months of 2026, there were 1,965 new home starts in the London CMA. This year’s activity was well above the January to April ten-year median of 947, which is a benchmark for the typical number of starts in the region.
  • In the City of London, there were 1,812 new home starts in the first four months of 2026, which was well above their January to April benchmark of 717 starts.
  • In St. Thomas, there were 58 new home starts in the first four months of 2026, which was below their January to April benchmark of 66 starts.
  • In the remainder of London CMA, there were 95 new home starts in the first four months of 2026, which was below their January to April benchmark of 132 starts.
  • At the end of April, the new home starts pipeline in the London CMA, the inventory of new homes tracked for housing starts activity, decreased significantly and now sits below the 2025 monthly average. This suggests that a slowdown in starts activity could occur in the near-term.
