London CMA New Home Starts - June 2026

The Canada Mortgage and Housing Corporation (CMHC) has released its latest new home starts data, highlighting residential construction activity across the London Census Metropolitan Area (CMA).

Key Highlights for June 2026:

  • In June, there were 373 new home starts in the London CMA, with activity heavily concentrated in West London (Riverbend).
  • Year-to-date, there were 2,469 new home starts in London CMA. This year’s activity was 58% above the January to June ten-year benchmark of 1,558 starts.
  • In the City of London, there were 2,200 new home starts in the first half of 2026, which was well above their January to June ten-year benchmark of 1,165 starts.
  • In St. Thomas, there were 91 new home starts in the first half of 2026, which was below their January to June ten-year benchmark of 126 starts.
  • In the remainder of the London CMA, there were 178 new home starts in the first half of 2026, which was below their January to June ten-year benchmark of 228 starts.
  • Near-term housing starts in the London CMA will likely ease from current elevated levels, given that the number of permit-approved units in the pipeline has moderated toward historical norms.
